Men's Golf Finishes Third At Charleston Southern Invitational

The Belmont Abbey men's golf team finished third at the Charleston Southern Inviational, held at the par 72 Crowfield Country Club in Goose Creek, South Carolina. The Abbey finished with a three-day team total score of 903, two shots back of Longwood and 17 shots behind Radford.

The Crusaders, which battled through the final round with influenza-like symptoms throughout the five-man lineup, were led by Conor Tomlinson's tied for 15th finish, posting a three day total of 225. He opened with a 76, rallied with a 71 and carded a 78 in the final round.

Freshman Peter Tarver Jones finished in a tie for 19th after a three-day total of 226. He opened with a 77, rallied with a one-over 73 and closed with a 76.

Matt Chidester posted a three-day total of 229, good for a tie for 26th. He posted an opening round 74, fired a 73 in the second round,and with a 101 degree fever in the final round, battled to finish with an 82.

Stephen Keane finished in a tie for 28th with a three-day total of 230. He opened with a one-over 73, followed that with a 74 and closed with an 83.

Chris Carvill finished in a tie for 50th after  posting a three-day total of 235. He opened with a 76, came back with an 82 and rallied with a final round 77.

Men's Golf Tied For Third After Second Round Of Sea Trail Intercollegiate

Crusaders Shoot 12 Under Par On Saturday

Three Belmont Abbey golfers shot rounds of 69 or better, inlcuding a pair of 68's, as the Crusaders posted a team score of 12 under par to move to a tie for third place after the second round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, hosted by Elon University.

After an opening round of 70 on Friday, senior Matt Chidester fired a four under par 68 today to move into a tie for sixth place. Sophomore Chris Carvill was just as solid, as he carded a 69 today after an opening round of 70. The biggest Abbey move of the day belonged to Karan Singh, who fired a 68 today after an opening round 78 as he moved into a tie for 46th.

Conor Tomlinson shot a 71 today after an opening round 73 as he sits in a tie for 36th, and Surya Prakash is in sole possession of 95th after opening with an 84 but rallying with a 77 today.

The Abbey is tied with Murray State at nine under par, and holds a three shot lead over William and Mary. The Crusaders are one just two participating schools that are not in Division I.

Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Kiawah Island Invitational

The Belmont Abbey men's golf team finished fifth out of 16 teams at the Kiawah Island Invitational, which was played on the par 72 Cougar Point Golf Club.

The Abbey was led by sophomore Conor Tomlinson, who finished in a tie for tenth after posting a one over score of 145. An all-america selection last season, opened with a two under par 70 and finished today with a 75 as he finished tenth.

Freshman Peter Tarver Jones finished in a tie for 28th after posting a two-day total of 151 (seven over par).  He opened with a 77 and rallied with a 74 today.

Sophomore Karan Singh carded a 76 and a 77 as he finished with a two-day total of 153 (nine over par) as he wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 33rd.

Sophomore Joe Campbell, an honorable mention all-america selection a year ago, wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 40th. He opened with an even par 72 but only shot an 82 today as he finished the tournament ten over par.

Freshman David Carvill wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 49th after carding a two day total of 12 over par (156). He opened with a one over 73 and fired an 83 today.

Oklahoma Christian won the tournament by three shots over Armstrong Atlantic.

Crusaders Coming Off Of A Sixth Place Tie At The 2007 NCAA Championships.

The Belmont Abbey men's golf team is ranked 20th in the first Division II Golf World/Nike Coaches Poll.

The Crusaders,which return all but one player from last year's team, finished in a tie for sixth at the NCAA Division II Championships in the school's first appearance in the tournament. The Abbey qualified for the National Tournament by capturing the Atlantic Regional by 14 shots.

Abbey Finishes Tied For Sixth At NCAA National Championships

ALLENDALE, MI- The Belmont Abbey men’s golf team wrapped up its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II men’s golf championships with a tie for sixth place, compiling a four-round total of 1201 (65 over par) at The Meadows, a par 71 6,992 yard course hosted by Grand Valley State University.

The Crusaders carded a team total of 293 (nine over par) in the final round, the third lowest of the day, behind USC Upstate, which finished second by one shot to Barry University, and Florida Southern.

Crusaders freshman Conor Tomlinson paced the Abbey efforts today with a sparkling one under par 70, as he recorded six birdies. This four day total of 296 (12 over par) allowed him to finish in a tie for 12th. Tomlinson got stronger as the tournament progressed, opening with a five over 76 and followed that up with a 78. Yesterday, he carded a 72 and finished with a 70 today.

Senior Kasey Timms, in his final collegiate round, fired a two over par 73, posting birdies on 12 and 14. His four day total of 302 is good for a tie for 34th. Timms opened with a 76, carded a 77 in the second round, and finished with a 76 and a 73.

For the third time in four rounds, freshman Joe Campbell fired a three over 74 this afternoon as he finished the championship in a tie for 14th (297, 13 over par). Campbell posted three birdies during today’s round, coming at four, six and 14. The Cheltenham, England product carded a 74 in the first, third and fourth rounds, and posted a 75 in the second round.

Sophomore Matt Chidester finished with a five over par 75 today, and his four day total of 311 (27 over par) placed him in a tie for 67th. Chidester opened with an 81, and then rallied with a second round 76. He posted a third round 78 and finished up today with a 76.

Freshman Chris Baron completed the championship with a final round 83 (12 over par), posting birdies on four and nine. His four day total of 326 (42 over par) gives him sole possession of 97th. Baron opened with a 76 and followed that up with an 80. He finished with a third round score of 87 and capped off the championship with an 83 today.

Freshman Tomlinson ties for 12th in nation
 
     ALLENDALE, Mich. (May 25) -- The Belmont Abbey golf team made school history, tying for sixth in the nation at the NCAA D-II National Championship.
     The Crusaders posted an impressive final-round 293 to leap from eighth place and tie Columbus State for sixth at 1,201. Barry University won the national title at 1,185.
     This was the Abbey's first appearance in the national tournament since moving from NAIA to NCAA Division II in the late 1990s. In the early 1990s, the team made it to the NAIA national tournament a couple of times.
     Individually, two freshmen played key roles for BAC. Connor Tomlinson tied for 12th, shooting 76-78-72-70--296, while Joe Campbell shot 74-75-74-74--297 to share the 14th spot.
     Senior Kasey Timms, playing in his last tourney as a Crusader, shot 76-77-76-73--302 and tied for 34th.
     Junior Matt Chidester fired a final-round 76 to tie for 67th, while freshman Chris Baron was 97th.
     The championship was held at The Meadows Golf Club.

Crusaders Bring Home 
NCAA Regional Title
 
      SAVANNAH, Ga. (May 9) -- Belmont Abbey earned a bid to the NCAA Division II National Championship with a convincing win in the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Savannah Quarters Country Club.
     The 23rd-ranked Crusaders battled high winds and rain for three days to capture the regional title by 14 shots. BAC shot 314-317-324--955 in tough conditions, while Pfeiffer was second at 338-308-323--969.
     By winning the regional, the Crusaders secured a trip to the national championship for the first time since becoming an NCAA Division II school. BAC did advance to the NAIA national championship several times in the early 1990s.
     Senior Kasey Timms, a standout since coming to the Abbey from Brevard (Fla.) Community College, led the victory charge. Timms shot 80-74-80--234 and tied for second individually. His second-round 74 was one of only three rounds in the tournament below 75.
     Freshman Joe Campbell was once again a force. He shot 78-77-81--236 to tie for fifth place. Junior Matt Chidester (81-81-83--245) tied for 12th.

Abbey Finishes Second at
2007 CVAC Championship
 
     CLEMMONS, N.C. (April 24) -- Despite a very strong performance, Belmont Abbey had to settle for second place in the 2007 Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference tourney.
     The Crusaders finished the three-day event just 20 shots over par with an 872 total. They shot 285 and 300 to lead after two rounds, and posted a strong 287 in the final round at Salem Glen Country Club.
     However, Barton College, known for its final-round rallies in the conference tourney, fired a six-under 278 to beat the Abbey by one shot.
     The next closest team -- Anderson -- was 13 shots back of the Abbey.
     Individually, freshman Connor Tomlinson continued his late-season surge. He fired rounds of 69, 71 and 71 to finish second at two-under 211.
     Senior Kasey Timms shot 69-85-69--223 and tied for 16th.
     Junior Matt Chidester (74-78-72) and freshman Joe Campbell (77-72-75) tied for 19th.

Freshmen Lead BAC
in D-I Palisades Classic
 
     CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 10) -- The Crusaders stepped up to the Division I level and performed well against the big boys, finishing 10th out of 18 teams in the Palisades Collegiate Classic.
     Two freshman shared the spotlight for BAC. Connor Tomlinson, playing in his hometown, shot 72-73-73--218 to tie for 28th, while Joe Campbell recorded a hole-in-one during a first-round 68 and finished tied for 31st at 219.
     Senior Kasey Timms (71-81-70) tied for 45th individually.
     "Heading into the CVAC Championship and NCAA Regionals, we are gaining confidence," said head coach Jim Haughey. "I expect good things will happen from here on out."

Final Round Lifts BAC
at Cleveland Intercollegiate
 
     AIKEN, S.C. (March 13) -- For the second straight week, Belmont Abbey earned a solid finish thanks to a final-round rally.
     The Crusaders fired 292 on the closing day of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate to post a team total of 900 in the 54-hole event. That vaulted them to 12th place in a 15-team field that included a dozen Division I schools.
     Host USC-Aiken, the defending D-II national champ, beat all 12 of those D-I teams with a first-place total of 861. Virginia Tech (867) took second.
     The tournament was played at Palmetto Golf Club.
     Junior Matt Chidester was the top BAC golfer in the field. Chidester fired rounds of 74, 76 and 70 to finish tied for 18th at 220.
     Freshman Joe Campbell shot 77-76-75--228 to tie for 48th, while freshman Connor Tomlinson tied for 53rd at 75-77-77--229.

 The Abbey Wins
Checkered Flag Shootout
 
     CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 17) -- Belmont Abbey grabbed the first-round lead and was declared the champion after heavy rains washed out the final round of the Checkered Flag Shootout at Rocky River Golf Club.
     The Crusaders posted a team total of 298, good for a one-shot win over Carson-Newman. Lenoir-Rhyne finished third at 303.
     A balanced attack fueled the victory against an 18-team field. Freshman Chris Baron shot 73, junior Mads Nielsen shot 74, junior Matt Chidester had 75 and senior Kasey Timms shot 76.
     Baron finished sixth, Nielsen tied for seventh, Chidester tied for 12th and Timms shared 16th place.
     It was the Abbey's first win of the fall season.
     Belmont Abbey also fielded a 'B' team, which shot 318 and tied for 10th. Freshman Joe Campbell shot 77 for 'B' team to tie for 23rd, while sophomore Justin Wong shot 79 and tied for 35th.

Crusaders Grab Second
at Kiawah Invitational
 
     KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Sept. 12) -- Belmont Abbey opened the fall season with an impressive second-place finish in the Kiawah Island Invitational.
     The Crusaders posted rounds of 292 and 299 for a 592 total, second only to Armstrong Atlantic, which rallied past the Abbey in the final round to finish at 584.
     It was a good opening performance for a team that has several newcomers. The Crusaders finished ahead of such national powers as: USC Aiken, Georgia College and Pfeiffer.
     Individually, senior Kasey Timms led the Abbey. Timms fired rounds of 75 and 71 for a 146 total on Kiawah's Cougar Point course. He tied for seventh.
     Freshman Connor Tomlinson of Charlotte showed why he was so highly recruited out of Myers Park High. Tomlinson shot 72-75--147 and tied for ninth.
     Also in the top 20 was freshman Chris Carvill of Northern Ireland. Carvill tied for 18th at 75-76--151.
